I have embarked on a project simply titled “Library”. The concept is to depict the human endeavour to save and preserve knowledge in book form; so this includes the letter, the word, the sentence, the idea, the research and everything else that goes with it. Our modern era has moved to the preservation of knowledge in electronic form, and while this is commendable, it does remove the involvement of all our senses and the personal interaction we have with physical contact. There is the excitement of touching and holding a new book, of flipping through the pages and smelling paper and ink, of hearing the whispers of pages turning, seeing the letters on the page and experiencing them coming to life in our mind, and then sharing those newfound, and for us, hereto undiscovered mysteries. The holding of that knowledge in our hands becomes a nearly spiritual experience.
